So here's the web site if you want to try it too:

I started with the mousse cause the recipe said to. Melting the chocolate with the double broiler was simple.
Making the meringue was another story. This was my first batch...
After nearly 15 min this is what I got! No peaks and it was too wet! I had to throw it out and start over.
25 min later I got the second batch right! Meringue sure does take a while to form peaks!
I added it to the chocolate mixture and a few other things and presto! Beautiful mousse! By this time it was about 1130 on Friday night and I was tired! So I decided to put the mousse in the fridge overnight and finish it in the morning. Well, the mousse was even more perfect in the morning! I'm so glad I decided to let it sit overnight because it came out a lot better.
Making the cake part was super simple. It took me less then 10 min to make before I slid it in the oven.
Not long after, out came a simple chocolate cake! I cut it in half to make the bottom and top layers.
The recipe says to wrap wax paper around the bottom layer of cake and tape it. Then pipe the mousse inside. I did it in circles to make it even all the way around. Then you put the top layer of cake on it and refrigerate it for a few hours to let it firm up.
I didn't have any large bags to pipe the mousse so I just put it all in a gallon sized zip lock baggie and cut off one of the ends. It worked perfectly.
Put the second half of the cake on top and put it in the fridge for at least two hours.
I'm done!!!!
This is picture from the web site. I don't think mine looks too shabby! Woohoo!

Yum! Is that what we're having Thurs.?! JK! Don't go through that much trouble. p.s. Do you want me to bring anything?
ReplyDeleteWow! My mouth is watering, it looks sooooo good! Did it taste like heaven? I'm pretty sure there's going to be chocolate in heaven. There has to be! And great job on whipping the meringue, I've never done that before, but I'm glad to know for future reference that it could take nearly 25 minutes for it to whip up.
