Wow, that was random.

Im warning you. This is probably the most random blog I have ever written. If you don't know me very well you are likely to read this thinking "Wow, that girl is nuts". I completely agree and am not offended. If you do know me well I am guessing you would say you could totally see me doing this. Just wait and see.

So I woke up this morning in a daydream. I don't know how I made it to work on time cause I was on a totally different planet while getting ready for work. Let me explain. I woke up thinking "Hmm. If could pick ANY other career other then what Im doing now what would it be?" ( Usually I think things like this when I've had a bad week at work haha) Although I am very thankful for my job, I am not in my dream job. My dream job would not involve being a nurse at all actually. Could my dream job ever be an actual possibility later on in life? Who knows. If I had a Great Aunt Mildred who left me thousands of dollars....maybe....but I dont....dang.

I made up a quick list of things that make me happy on a daily basis. My dream job would include all these things.

1. I love putting people at ease, enabling them to sit back and relax and enjoy fellowship with others, which is probably why my TOP spiritual gift is hospitality (according to the online test I took a few months ago! haha)

2. I love feeding people. Random I know. It gives me joy to feed people good food. I know when I taste amazing food I can't help but make a huge deal about it. Everyone who knows me well knows that the sounds that make when I eat delicious food are sorta embarrassing....for everyone else, not for me. haahahahhaha!

3. I love providing quality customer service to people. I'm a real shmoozer (I totally made that word up...) or lack of a better word I like to pamper/please people. (brown-noser in elementary school...) I have no problem giving people what they want (within reason) if it makes them happy.

4. I LOVE to decorate. Whether it be decorating a cupcake or my home with half priced wall sconces from Hobby Lobby, I love it! I love to incorporate warm clean colors with a slightly modern style making a stylish but comfortable atmosphere.

Ok here it is....when I texted matt all this during work today and suggested we both quit doing what we are doing and do this, he just wrote back these words: "Wow that was a lot to take in...and very random"

So... my answer would be.... I would open up my own Cafe/Bistro/Bakery! I don't know what I would name it but I know it would be a combination of these restaurants... a La Madeliene, Panera Bread and a Starbucks. I want to serve the yummiest coffee drinks that you can imagine (almost like desserts!) but also gourmet sandwiches, salads and quiches. Here are a few of the awesome things I would put on my menu. Try not to drool.

Have you ever see the movie "It's Complicated" with Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin? If you haven't seen it go rent it just so you can see what I'm talking about. Now, this is not my favorite movie on the planet, but it shows you how cool they make it look to have your own pastry shop. In the movie, Meryl Streep is a pastry chef who owns her own GORGEOUS bakery/cafe. There is a scene in the movie where she is making these amazing chocolate croissants in her beautiful professional kitchen. AND her home in the movie is breathtaking. Ivy everywhere, a large open kitchen, glass doors and windows everywhere. Anyway, the movie is all about families and relationships (which I love) but also about divorce and affairs (something I don't love). In general its a cute movie.

Another movie I LOVE is "No Reservations" with Catherine Zeta Jones and Aaron Eckhart. Great family movie and they have a really cute cafe at the end of the movie that is another example of what a business would look like.

Ok last one. Yesterday Matt and I rented a movie called Life as we Know It. In it Katherine Heigl is a pastry chef who owns her own bakery called " Fraiche". In it she is trying to expand into a restaurant from a bakery. It's a really cute movie. Go watch that too.

Back to reality....

Not only would I have to come up with the money to go back to school to become a pastry chef but I would have to somehow come up with knowledge that it takes to own/run a business and pay employees and keeps records and bla bla bla. None of which I know how to do or have the money to do. But it's fun to dream right?

Wow that was fun to go off on a tangent like that....I love having my own blog so I can write whatever I want! haha! I would LOVE to hear what YOU would do if you could pick your dream job! Leave me a comment and tell me!!!!

Oh, I forgot....I would make all my staff wear these cute little aprons that say the name of our bakery. Ok maybe not the guys. Isn't this such a fun apron from flirtyaprons.com!?

Thanks for reading!!!

  1. Katie, I adore your spunk, your randomness, your passion for food. I miss watching you eat, the absolute delight you take in food, even in Hardy Hall nastiness, you would still ohh and ahh and yuuumm while you ate. It always made me laugh, not at you, but at the fact that I had never known someone to love food so much and you made going to eat FUN! :)

I think you would make an amazing Cafe/Bistro/Bakery shop girl! How fun would that be!! Maybe one day this dream of yours will come true. Some days I too wonder about what I'd LOVE to do, especially if had the time, money, and resources. And you know, it's definitely not being a nurse somewhere. I want to learn more about photography, and herbal remedies, and making my own body care products, and cooking, and I'd love to learn to sew. And travel, yeah, I want to go to Italy and France with Justin someday. I don't want to go back to work and work in a hospital or clinic. B-O-R-I-N-G! I want to do and learn so many other things! I totally get what you are saying in this random blog post. :)

ok, now I need to go watch all of these movies you talked about. I have not seen any of them!!! Where have I been? Oh yeah, no cable. lol! :)

  3. I love horses, the beach and SHAMU. I think it would be a ton of fun to work at Sea World and work the dolphins and whales. Like dive off their nose! Something that involved those 3 things would be great!
