I'm trying to decide if I have laryngitis, bronchitis, strep throat, mono or just a cold mixed with allergies. I have googled all of those diagnosis and they all fit. I don't have a fever but I do have runny nose, wheezing, horrible productive cough, very scratchy and sensitive sore throat, and minimal body aches ( they have improved a lot since Saturday). I was in the middle of interviewing my patient for surgery today and had to say "I"ll be right back..." and totally left the room cause I could feel a coughing fit coming on. Right as I left his room I busted out with a loud, long cough that sounded like I had the Black Plague. haha! I didn't want them to think I was sick! (which I am). I guess anyone can tell that when they listen to me talk. If I had to diagnosis myself, I'd say bronchitis. I will go tomorrow and get checked out. I have to get some sleep!
Last year in April I felt similar to how I'm feeling now, but I remember being feeling a little more tired. I blew my symptoms off for about 4 days. Finally, I ran by the Care Now by our home on the way home from work one day just to get something to make it easier for me to work. Well, they swab my throat and tell me right away that it's MONO and that I have to be out of work for TWO WEEKS!!! What!!!? I thought it was just a cold that wouldn't go away! Now, this time last year I had only been at my job for 2 months! I did not have any sick time saved up! So I was out of work without pay for two weeks. Luckily, God knew ahead of time and we had just enough money to get us through till my next paycheck. Thank you Lord!
I hate to go pay $25 to go to Care Now again but I feel like I want to know what it is. I want to get my throat swabbed. But at the same time, I kinda don't want to know if its anything bad, so I don't have to miss work. Pathetic I know. If Matt was working I wouldn't worry about it at all and would have asked to stay home all week. Oh well. Not Gods plan.
I NEVER go to the doctor for colds or the flu. I think too much medicine and antibiotics can be too much of a good thing and I tend to opt for OTC drugs over Rx when I'm not feeling good. Doctors love me cause they rarely see me. I don't even have a primary care doctor! My OB said nurses are her worst patients because they never come in to the doctor when they probably should. And then so many other people come in when they shouldn't! Nurses just wait it out at home cause they don't want to be labeled a "frequent flyer" or "high maintenance" and because of the environment we work in, you aren't really supposed to be sick while you are taking care of people who are already sick. BUT, it's kinda an oxymoron because nurses are some of the most hard working people who would come to work on their death bed! haha! In fact someone told me just today, "I haven't called in a sick day in 13 years, I come to work no matter how I feel." . I personally don't really think thats something to be proud of, especially in our line of work. That means that when you didn't feel good you came to work anyway and infected all of us and the patients too. Thanks a lot. Thats why they give you sick time! For when you are sick! Why are people such slave drivers and don't allow themselves to have a recoup day to get better.
Please keep me in your prayers! I don't want to have to call in!
