"New statistics indicate that stay at home fathers have increased by over 60% since 2004 (APA Monitor). Research is suggesting that stay at home dads are doing well psychologically and experience marital satisfaction. Not surprisingly, men who stayed home with their children were more likely to be affectionate and nurturing. Regardless of the men being happy and confident in their decision to raise their children, a social stigma still remains. Family and friends voice their mixed reactions to the care-taking arrangement. Similar to female care-takers, men also miss the daily adult interaction and stimulation. Being a stay at home father may also isolate the men from other full-time parents. Sadly, some stay at home dads reported being rejected from play-groups. Given such information, it is pertinent that father's are provided with support by creating daddy-friendly playgroups, or online support networks where stay-at-home dads can share stories, attain parenting suggestions and find a sense of camaraderie in the elation and challenge that raising children offers."
"The Wall Street Journal reported that the number of stay at homes dads increased by over 60% from 2003 to 2006 according to the census. In addition, Census data reported in 2008 shows that 25% of children (2.8 million out of 11.3 million) under five whose mothers are employed, are cared for by their fathers. This trend may be slowed by the economic downturn during which both husband and wife may need to work, but it is a dramatic shift from the way things were in just 10-20 years ago."
I am so proud of Matt and all the amazing things he has been teaching Addy as she grows. But also, he does all the monotonous tasks that every mom or parent has (and hates) to do everyday. (Grocery shopping, laundry, doctors appointments.) I am so proud of him!!!!

Matt has so done this before. Haha.

I wish there was a men's play-group around us!
I bet he is such a fun stay-at-home dad!! I mean, come on, any day who is crazy enough so shave his head into a mohawk has GOT to be the COOLEST!! :)
ReplyDeleteI think it is such an honorable thing for a man to do!! What a special bond Addy will always have with her daddy. :) I know of quite a few stay-at-home dads, and I think it's cool that more dad's are taking an active role in household things and helping with the children. One day Katie... I hope you get to be the one who stays home, you never know what the future holds. Just continue to be thankful you married such a wonderful man who stays home and you don't have to worry about Addy not being in the best hands!!
